Hi, I'm Jay (he/him).

Growing up, I hated creativity. I associated it with fear.

This fear came from my mother. As a refugee, single parent, and eldest daughter of eight, my mother put away her dreams of being an artist to care for our family.

Seeing this made me believe being creative meant that I could not be successful. So I avoided it.

But somewhere along the way I gave in. I taught myself graphic design to make pocket change, joined a dance company to gain confidence, and studied art history to learn about culture. Suddenly, I realized that this is what I want to do with my life.

So now I’m working hard to prove my younger self wrong. That creativity should not be feared and that I can do what my mother dreamed of doing.
